FAQs

🌿 What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and a Nutritionist?

Great question! These titles are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same.

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)

  • A licensed healthcare professional who has completed an accredited university program, 1,000+ hours of supervised clinical training, and passed a national board exam.

  • Required to maintain licensure, continuing education, and follow ethical and professional standards.

  • Qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy for medical conditions (diabetes, PCOS, heart disease, GI disorders, etc.).

  • Often covered by insurance or eligible for reimbursement.

Nutritionist

  • The term “nutritionist” is not regulated in many states. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, regardless of education or training.

  • Training can range from a weekend course to a full degree—varies widely.

  • May offer general wellness or dietary advice but legally cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions unless licensed in their state.

  • Typically not covered by insurance.

At Thrive Wellness, you are working with a Registered Dietitian, ensuring your nutrition care is science-based, credentialed, and rooted in both holistic and clinical expertise.

🌿 Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes. All consultations are available online through a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. You can conveniently meet from home, work, or while traveling.

🌿 Do you take insurance?

Thrive Wellness does not bill insurance directly. However, depending on your provider, you may use HSA/FSA funds, or request a superbill to submit for reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service.

🌿 What functional tests do you use?

Testing is based on your symptoms and goals. These tests help identify root causes rather than just treating symptoms. Common functional labs include:

  • DUTCH Hormone & Adrenal Testing

  • GI-MAP Stool & Gut Microbiome Testing

  • Organic Acids (OAT)

  • Micronutrient Testing

  • Food Sensitivity Panels

🌿 What can I expect during my first consultation?

Your initial session includes:

  • A full health history review

  • Lifestyle & nutrition assessment

  • Discussion of symptoms, goals, and lab needs

  • Personalized nutrition/hormone strategy

You’ll leave with clear next steps or a care plan.

🌿 How do I schedule an appointment?

You can book online through our client portal or website booking link. Once scheduled, you'll receive intake forms and a confirmation email with appointment details and tele-health access.

🌿 Do you create customized meal plans or macros?

Yes. Based on your goals and lab findings, we can provide individualized macronutrient targets, meal planning guidance, recipes, and support through platforms like Practice Better and Cronometer.

Absolutely. Thrive Wellness specializes in supporting clients with:

  • Metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, PCOS

  • Perimenopause/menopause hormone changes

  • Endometriosis, thyroid disorders

  • Digestive issues, IBS, bloating, SIBO

We collaborate with your physician or healthcare provider as needed.

🌿 How long does it take to see results?

Every body is different. Most clients begin noticing improvements in energy, digestion, or mood within 2–4 weeks. Hormone and metabolism-related changes may take 8–12 weeks depending on lab findings and consistency.

🌿 Do you offer memberships or packages?

Yes. We offer flexible options, including:

  • Single consultations

  • 4–, 8–, or 12-week coaching programs

  • Monthly wellness memberships with messaging support, lab reviews, and nutrition updates

🌿 What should I bring or prepare before my first appointment?

After scheduling, you’ll receive intake forms. It’s helpful to also upload:

  • Recent lab work (if applicable)

  • A 3–5 day food log or Cronometer data

  • List of current medications/supplements

🌿 Can you help with weight loss during perimenopause or menopause?

Yes. We specialize in women's health and hormonal weight changes. Our approach focuses on metabolism, cortisol balance, strength training, nutrition timing, and inflammation—not crash dieting or excessive cardio.
